Japanese knotweed (JKW) is a notoriously invasive plant species that has a fearsome reputation. Surveyors now check for evidence of JKW even when carrying out straightforward mortgage valuations. If any signs of JKW are detected, even on neighbouring land, there’s a good chance the mortage lender will refuse to lend, cauing major problems for buyers and sellers alike.
