What The New ‘Green Homes’ Grant Actually Pays

The Government have now released details about the much trumpeted ‘Green Homes Grants’. You can check if you’re eligible and see what improvements can be made to your home on the GOV.UK website.

Homeowners and Landlords can apply for Green Homes Grant vouchers towards the cost of having energy efficient improvements made to their properties.   Qualifying improvements include adding extra insulation to cut energy use, or fitting a more efficient heating system to reduce the amount of Carbon Dioxide emitted.

This very useful summary explaining who can qualify and how much you can claim has now been published by the Homeowners Alliance.

Basically, there are 2 categories of works – ‘primary’ and ‘secondary’.
Before any secondary measures are made, the you must have first completed one of the primary improvements using the voucher.

Primary measures include improvements such as wall, floor and loft insulation and low carbon heating.

Secondary improvements include draught-proofing and upgrading windows, doors and heating controls.

Funding for secondary improvements is capped at the same amount claimed for the primary measure.

The works must be completed by 31 March 2021.
